
Just like people, brands come in all shapes and sizes. A brand is not a logo, colors, fancy tag line or even a fancy Super Bowl commercial. A brand is not your Facebook page, Twitter background or set of beautifully designed Pinterest boards.

Passion if focused in the right direction can jet set you toward your goals in life and business. Today was my last day on an amazing business trip in Spain. I am in Madrid visiting a client, the British Council. I was invited to speak, train and consult with a group of amazing social business and digital marketing leaders.

We’ve all seen the social media profiles, bios and disclaimers that read something similar to “my thoughts are my own” or “my tweets are my own.”
Is there really such a thing? Is there a magical hour or invisible line in the sand that separates an employee from the words they say, the things they do and the impact they have on a brand?

Developing a social media program with no plan, goals or objectives is like expecting to get on a plane for vacation with no plane ticket, itenerary or idea where you are going when you get to the destination.
You need more than a set of random acts of social media and marketing (RAMs). RAMs will eat every last morsel of return on investment you have left. The best way to identify a RAM is that it is not funded, resourced, in the plan or have metrics to measure success.

The Social Media Truth series is based on a keynote presentation I did at the Rochester Institute of Technology last year. I have been writing on the core concepts since then and it has served as a foundation for much discussion. I used the content as a test project to practice what I preach, build and execute an integrated plan around one solid piece of content.

If I had 100 bucks for every time a client has told me one of the below statements I would be writing this from a year long all expense paid trip to the island of choice!
